Remember when Subaru were in the world rally championship? Yes, the glorious heydays of the iconic blue-and-yellow ‘555' liveried cars jumping and zooming past eager crowds and atop the winning podium... Those days are sadly gone thanks the the 2008 economic crisis, but the cars will live on in our memories and also in the diecast scene.
I have here a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRC driven by Petter Solberg and his co-driver, Phil Mills. The depicted livery here is from Rally New Zealand 2003. The race was won by Peugeot’s Marcus Gronholm, but the overall champion that year was Petter Solberg. I remember that year well. I was in Primary Six, and rally back then was still a huge event, right after F1 of course. I was always a fan of the Scoobies, and to see Petter win the championship and take his first WRC Drivers title was a sweet moment.
Anyhow, I digress. This model is from a magazine collection ‘Rally Car Collection’ by DeAgostini. It’s scale is 1:43. It is the first issue, and I don’t know how many car models are in the entire list. I bought it because it was the first issue, I’m a fan of the Subarus, and because it was cheap. Normally such partwork magazine start off with an affordable price, only to increase with each upcoming issue! I enjoy the model for what it’s worth; it doesn’t have a manufacturer name on the base, only that it states that it’s “MADE IN CHINA”. Quality is obviously not to Minichamps standards, mind you, but it’s well made enough for a substantial addition to any rally fan’s model collection.
I’ve just managed to take these few photos as the weather isn’t too kind to Singapore now. Thanks for viewing, and you have yourselves a wonderful day! Cheerio!
