“A UFO has crash landed in the vicinity. Dispatched the SHADO Mobiles”
The year is 1980 (a future year at the time the series was made) and Earth is being visited and attacked by aliens from a dying planet and humans are being covertly harvested for their organs by the aliens. To defend our planet, a secret, high-technology international agency called SHADO (an acronym for Supreme Headquarters, Alien Defence Organisation) was established to provide alert to its members in order to stop any possible intrusion by the Aliens.
The show called “UFO” was created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the creator of such children show as Thunderbirds and Stingray using Marionettes.
Dinky made several TV related models including “UFO” and one of those models was the Shado 2 Mobile 353.
To me I think this model was made with kids and possibly adult collectors in mind.
Take for instance the all metal body. This thing is really durable enough for some rough play as it does not have any small delicate parts.
For play value, the level on the rear can be flip.
And the roof flips to reveal a rocker launcher.
The firing mechanism can be swiveled and the rocket elevated. It also came with 3 rockets.
Believe it or not this is actually one of my childhood toys and was surprise at the condition of this toy after so many years. One of the most enjoyable toys I have growing up.
I would rate this 5 out of 5 for play value and 4 out of 5 for detail and 5 out of 5 for quality control.
