In 1997 Mercedes Benz introduced the CLK GTR for use in the FIA GT championship. After a successful first season the chassis was upgraded for use at the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans and renamed the CLK LM. With that upgraded came an engine swap from the original V12 configuration to a V8 as it was determined the V12s would not be a reliable choice for the 24 hour test. The chassis would retired the next year in 1999 as competition rules changed allowing Mercedes to develop a new plarform.

I’ve always loved this casting from Hot Wheels along with the Porsche 911 GT1, I’m glad we got at least these two endurance giants from this era. Typically the silver variation is featured but I had this extra metallic purple variation kicking around and thought I’d give it a few upgrades.

Obviously it got a wheel swap and drop, I knew gold would be the color of choice right away. It actually took three swaps to land on these. The decals came next, the Mobil 1 stuff was all that I had laying around to be period correct and I added the wreath on the hood because it reminded me of the Mercedes emblem. Lastly, I painted on the front and rear details to call it done. Enjoy!
