This is sort of a double purpose post this is a tractor and is the first larger scale diecast that had a lot to do with starting me off in this great hobby. It is of a Ford 8600 tractor. This was a larger scale from Ertl not quite sure of the exact scale but it is pretty big maybe 8 inches tall by 11 inches long by 6 inches wide and pretty heavy. The Ford 8600 was just under a 100 drawbar horsepower with more available at the PTO with a 6.6 liter inline six normally aspirated diesel engine and was a pretty good sized tractor for anything short of a huge wheat field. Now for a little bit of background and the main reason this diecast means so much to me. Growing up my familly owned a dairy and we used Ford tractors. For the longest time the 8600 was the largest tractor on the farm and was by far and still is one of my favorite tractors. We did eventually get a Ford 9200 which was basically a turbo charged 8600 with a cab. Yes the 9200 was newer and had and air conditioned and heated cab(going to have to tell the story of the blizzard road trip in the 9200 one of these days) but that 8600 will always be my favorite. We had to sell out the dairy business in 1987 but one of these days I am pretty sure I am going to come across an old 8600 and pick it up not sure what I would use it for but I bet I will be able to come up with something. Anyway here are a couple of pics of the diecast and I am off to see if I can find a screaming deal on a low hour 8600.
