Hi guys! A thousand apologies if I have been missing for the last few months. Been busy with work and life in general. But I have been lurking around LaLD and checking out my fellow LaLDers’ posts. I will try to post regularly if possible...
Fortunately, I had some time off, and I decided to gather all the small-scale McLaren cars I have for McLaren Monday. I realised I haven’t done one in a while, so why not bring the goodies all out for a nice group photo and individual photo shoots?
Here I have a mixture of different McLarens from different manufacturers. There are Hot Wheels, Tomica, Majorette, Kyosho, and Mini GT models here.
You can’t have a McLaren diecast collection WITHOUT the F1. Or in this case, the F1 GTR. These are all from Hot Wheels; the orange one is a late-release Speed Machines version without the co-mold wheels, orange was initially the GTR from some ‘Decades’ range which I ‘converted’ to the LM model, and the Gulf one from the ‘Gulf Premium’ set.
Next, we have four variations of the F1’s ‘successor’, the McLaren P1. All except for the yellow are by Hot Wheels, with the yellow being from Kyosho’s 1/64 range. The Hot Wheels P1s have been ‘detailed’ with black marker for the lights and air intakes. I feel that it gives the car a more realistic look now. The favourite of the quartet has to be the Zamac one with red ‘Watanabe’ wheels; odd choice for a McLaren, but I dig it. What do you guys think of the combo??
And then we have this McLaren Senna... Hoo boy, when the prototype images were released by Mini GT, I immediately booked one. No hesitation. I didn’t think that HW would end up producing their own take on this car, but either way I’d have bought the Mini GT Sennas. All are nice in their own way; not going to do a comparo because it wouldn’t be fair to compare the two. Credit to HW for not using their infamous ‘largerearwheel-itis’ on this casting. Yes, the headlight tampos weren’t included in this casting, but that’s fine for a $1 toy. I fixed it up by using a fine-tipped Sharpie to fill in the blank spaces. Judging by the photos, I’d say I did quite a respectable job!
Ahhh, the McLaren 570S... love the real car, love the two toy versions we have. I’ve got the HW one and the Tomica one for photos here. Again, not comparing the two; both are equally stunning in their small-scale forms.
Finally, to wrap things up, I have here the Majorette 675LT (green) and Kyosho’s 1/64 650S. The ‘original’ baby Macca, the 650S was essentially a facelifted and slightly reworked MP4/12C and the 675LT was just a homage to the ‘long tail’ McLaren F1 GTR racers from Le Mans. Majorette’s effort to include a McLaren into their catalogue must be commended; it gave us the first affordable baby Macca in toy form. No one else did the 12C, 675LT, or 650S apart from them and Kyosho. And we all know whose is MUCH cheaper...! The Kyosho McLaren is truly special. Just like the yellow P1 I showed above, Kyosho really know how to make detailed 1/64 cars. A lovely piece to add to any McLaren road car fan’s display cabinet or shelf.
So that is all of the little McLarens I have in my collection. Looking forward to adding more soon.
Below I’ll leave you with a massive photodump of the cars! Enjoy and see y’all soon!
