Big things with little cars

LaLD Car Week 1990's: Jaguar XJ220

We’re all familiar with the XJ220, so I won’t go into detail about the car’s history.

This is a Matchbox Premiere Collection XJ220 in roughly 1/64. Premiere Collection cars were top of the line for Matchbox in the 1990's. They featured better interior detail, painted window surrounds, lettered rubber tires, colored lights and indicators, and working suspensions. Production was “limited” to 25,000 per casting.

This XJ220, finished in metallic British racing green, is a stunner. The XJ220's large glass area allows us to view the well-detailed interior. The grey plastic dashboard, console, and seats offset the black plastic floor. The gearshift knob is painted bright red. The engine compartment is a little less stellar, with some flat chrome bits to show that an attempt was made. The Goodyear tires are inaccurate, but look great.
