I have made everyone waited a long time for this, alas the wait is over. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you this is fine stallion from the Hot Wheels Garage Series. This model might not be the most accurate out there but when you look at it, the presence of this could definitely be felt.
I shall be the first to admit that I'm not very knowledgeable about this car but what I do know this example was the prime reason I bought the entire 11 car lot it was included in. Crazy choice but I know I made the right one when I look at how much an individual piece goes for on the evil Bay, that price alone could cover for a third of what I paid for these 11 cars. It's also one of the lucky bids that didn't spiral out of control.
This 288 GTO will be the final car I will be reviewing from said HAWL, the rest will appear in a "honorable mention" post to conclude featuring these cars.
Alright, back to the car. First released in 2008 New models, this was released in the 2010 Hot Wheels Garage Series. Despite its simple red paint, the Garage Series pushed all the stops to give it complete trim and emblem details. There're some tiny flaws but it's absolutely stellar for a $5 (retail) piece.
Loving the side profile on this thing, I'm not even mad it has big rear wheels. A bit of checking through my collection, this is the only HW Ferrari I have with Real Riders.
Tail lights! Even on a red car! Very seldom does How Wheels (designers) exercise such restrain and stick with factory trim and emblems. I hope to see something more like this in the future, the Retro Entertainment series seems to fulfill that criteria.
Upon closer inspector of the rear, the downside I find was the lacking detail of rear transaxle, that would have helped make the rear a little more attractive.
What comes as another downer is the the paint flaw on the left tail lights. It seems like a ball of dust or debris got embedded in the paintwork, I dare not pull it out for fear wrecking the paint.
Ultimately, I am joyous this is finally in my collection. It had been an adventure hunting one down, from the numerous bidding battles that I lost to the time I kinda gave up and looked for alternatives. I had a lot of doubts and fear when I placed my bid on the lot of cars and couldn't be happier that it all went smoothly!
This is going a big WANT among LaLDers when they see it but don't have it yet, here's an advice I'd give to anyone on the hunt: Look for poorly listed lot of HW Garage Cars, chances are they will be overlooked by people looking for specific cars. That's roughly what happened to me.
A bonus 288 GTO released in the 2011 Hot Ones Series. I'll end off my review/feature with this, I hope everyone enjoy reading this post and looking at the pictures in it. I can't be sure if I'll have another "review" next week since school is gonna get busier.
