Buddy won the 1976 Winston 500 at Talladega with a car very similar to this one. Years prior, in 1970, he had been the first driver to exceed 200 mph in a closed course in a Dodge Charger Daytona.

He would end up being victorious at the 1980 Daytona 500, again with a NAPA-sponsored Grey Ghost.

That Daytona victory still holds up as the fastest Daytona 500 ever run, with an average speed of 177.602 mph

Buddy never won a championship, but holds the distinction as being one of 8 drivers to complete a Career Grand Slam in Cup, winning the Daytona 500, Winston 500 (now Aaron's 499), Coca-Cola 600 and Southern 500 over his career.
