I stopped at my local Porsche dealer today to pick up something for the Boxster. They usually have a nice selection of expensive 1/43 and 1/18 models that I always browse, but nothing really out of the ordinary. Today though, they had something special- an Amalgam 1/8 Porsche 919.

Amalgams are truly incredible. I have seen a few in my life and they are always a treat to stumble upon. With the unusually large size comes an unusually insane amount of detail. Have you ever seen die-cast with a weathered engine bay? Absolutely insane.

Apparently only 100 of these were made.

Finally, I’m glad the dealer prices all their die-cast, rather than take the “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” approach. Check out that number on the lower right.

I would guess that that is out of most of their clients’ price range! But there are lots of rich motorsport fans in this world; I’m sure all 100 will be spoken for eventually.
