2018 was really really kind to me. Not only did I score my 1:64 scale grail car, but I also managed to acquire my 1:18 scale grail after several years of waiting for the right opportunity. Back in 2014 I saw a picture (on Jalopnik I think) of Touring Superleggera’s Alfa Romero Disco Volante in green with gold trim and I was absolutely in love.

Since then it has held the title of “Most Beautiful Car” in my opinion. I just adore the styling and every gorgeous detail of this car. Imagine my delight when, a year or two later, I found that Tecnomodel was offering the car in both 1:18 and 1:43 scales. But, a couple of things made getting this grail very difficult. First- I don’t collect 1:43. So, 1:18 was going to have to be my goal. Second- cost, these go for about $200-$300 on eBay depending on color and the Green seems to be the most desirable. Third- availability, I watched eBay like a hawk for over a year and a Green version never popped up. Tough hunt for sure.

In the winter of 2017 I reached out to our good friend CitizenPatrick and asked if he had one in stock. I figured I could maybe set aside some money for a heavy diecast purchase. He noted that he didn’t have one, but he knew someone that did. Price was exactly where I expected it to be. I thanked him and told him I would save my pennies.

Fast forward to winter of 2018. I still had not saved up enough pennies to purchase the car because I impulse buy 1:64 cars like a boss. But, I had a very unexpected gift that made acquiring this car a reality. CitizenPatrick, bless his soul, confirmed that his contact still had the car available and he connected me with the fine gentleman owner of CMA Models, Marshall Buck. I sent some Benjamins and in short time the car of my dreams was in hand just a few days before Jan 1st.

To say I am happy to have this car in my collection would be an absolute understatement. Every detail is just fantastic and it feels so gratifying to have it on my shelf to admire every day. Since this is Tecnomodel Sealed Resin there’s no opening parts. But, what it lacks in that respect it makes up with the amazing details and flawless paintjob. All of the details that I want to admire are executed without flaw.

You read that right. 1 of only 90 ever made... and I took it off the base to display it with my other 1:18 cars. I have no shame. I bought this to admire it fully :) It was a tough pill to swallow to spend so much money on a 1:18 Resin car. But, now that I have it, I’m glad that I finally made it happen. Never hold back on your dreams to own you grail car LaLD!

This would not have been possible without the help of CitizenPatrick and I totally appreciate his help! He’s not getting out of this deal empty handed though... I have evil plans to further show my appreciation.

Thanks for looking!
