AutoArt Toyota 2000GT Roadster

Thanks to LALD I learned that sadly Diecast Select was closing down and had put everything on sale. As such, I was able to snag this 1/18 AutoArt Toyota 2000GT Roadster for a really great price.

This model was originally issued as the car from the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice in specially-themed James Bond packaging. This version comes in a regular AutoArt Millennium box and differs from the Bond version in having “Toyota 2000GT” show plates rather than the Japanese number plates on the film car.

The box also claims it’s a Toyota 2000GT Cabriolet, which it really isn’t because the real car didn’t actually have a roof at all (or windows in the doors) just an upholstered hump at the rear of the cabin. This was because Toyota converted two cars into open-top roadsters for use in the film, but the 2000GT was only sold as a coupe.
