AutoWorld Tiers

Illustration for article titled AutoWorld Tiers

Inspired by a lot of AW interest recently, I wanted to talk about AW's different tiers. Basically, I made this post to make sure all of LALD is on the same page.

Of course, tiers is a term I made up to help classify the cars. The truth is, within each release, there are 3 separate groups of 6 cars (from cheapest to more expensive); Deluxe, Premium, and Licensed Premium. I just call these 3 groups tiers, because I'm not aware of AW's official term.

One of the biggest differences is that the higher the tier, the less plastic is used. Meaning plastic base and/or body. They still look great at any tier though. I can't speak too much on the quality of the different tiers, especially the deluxe one. In my collection I have 1 Deluxe, 3 Premium (here and here), and 6 Licensed Premium.

Also, each car comes in 3 colors per release. The first two vary but the last one is a special color, which I think is mainly red. It's the equivalent of a JL 'white lightning' car. I have never seen them in the wild, and are suppose to be rare.

I think the real question is, how do you identify which is what in the store. The answer is quite easy, just look at the packaging. Deluxe comes with only the car. Premium comes with a box, like Tomica cars do. Premium License comes with a display case (although the car isn't screwed to it). Its as simple as that. Though, here in Michigan, the price raises with each tier, starting off off at ~$3.99 and ending at ~$6.99.

Happy Hunting!
