G’day my diecast brethren, and apologies for allowing such a long between drinks, but what I lack in regularity* I more than make up for in news, because what I want to share with you today is rather (read: awesomely) exciting and it’s all a bit deep.
*That’s posting regularity here on LaLD not the other type. Thank you for being concerned but you can keep your fibre advice to yourself ;)
Let’s start with dish, because when it comes to wheels, offset, camber and stance you... actually I think this quote says it best:
Now for those who are familiar with MyCustomHotwheels.com will already be accustomed to my obsession with dish and my multiple articles and how to guides on the topic of creating deep dish rims (links to those articles will be provided at the end of this post) but so far my quest to create the deep dish rims I craved most of all had eluded me.
When I finally did make my much craved deep dish BBS wheels I not only fulfilled a small personal goal, I also somehow inadvertently managed to crack what is essentially the ‘Deep Dish Code’ (patent pending) thus allowing me (and now you) to make deep dish wheels from ANY HOT WHEELS MAINLINE WHEEL YOU LIKE! - Not only that, the method I share in the post (link provided at end of article but also above for your convenience) is the easiest method yet and requires absolutely no tools (except a drill obviously) at all!
The results I think speak a lot better than I do on the topic - at least I can assure you the WRX here won’t ramble on and digress into random tangents of obscurity... which I appear to have started STOP!... The Rex.
For those who truly pledge their allegiance to the nation of stance and hellaflush offset the following articles may prove useful and/or inspiring:
- How To Make Deep Dish BBS Wheels - or any type for that matter
- How To Make Deep Dish Wheels in 5 Minutes Flat!
- How To Make Work Meister Style Deep Dish Wheels
- How To Stance Hot Wheels Cars
Believe it or not, we’re about to get even deeper still, because what I am about to share now is the biggest news in Custom Hot Wheels since..... custom Hot Wheels!
It all started (publicly) with this announcement from @Superfly_Magazine who are spearheading this whole competition and without whom non of it would have been possible.
I first heard about this competition from Tony and Carmen Matthews (the founders of Superfly Magazine) who humbled me greatly by asking me to be involved - an offer I clearly jumped at, but jumping was all I could do for months as I waited for the announcement to be made public - the singing and dancing would have to wait.
More details of the competition followed on Instagram (via @Superfly_Magazine whom I advise following if you wish to stay informed)
OK now things were getting serious - the competition was starting on the 12th May. Before you start asking the same questions I have fielded 5000 times already allow me to set a few things straight re: details:
- The Competition begins on the 12th May 2016 and therefore your build will begin then as well
- The Deadline for entries is set for the 2nd June 2016
- Full competition details unveiled on the 12th May - at which time Hot Wheels make the details of the build known and share with whomever wishes to participate what the requirements are and what the prizes will be... beyond what we already know I mean...
Because what we already know just keeps getting better:
There’s also a Meguiars Pack, more Hot Wheels SDCC exclusive stuff, and every few days it seems they chuck more on the table - and I for one say bring it :D
And then they went and made it INSANE...
Competition judges not only include Jun Imai (Top Hot Wheels Designer) and a panel of Hot Wheels insiders, there’s also a bearded celebrity joining the ranks - and I’m sure the man needs no further introduction than what the above image has provided.
There’s a few other surprises in store that even I am not privy to so all I can say is watch THIS SPACE and stay tuned for the craziest custom Hot Wheels competition EVER!
