If anyone has a soft spot for early beetles it’s definitely myself as I’ve owned three in my short life span, everything from bone stock to full Cal-look/resto mod. When I saw that M2 was coming out with a 1:24 scale of a 1952 split in this pastel green it immediately struck a cord with me as my 1956 beetle was the same color.
My 1956 was bone stock when I bought it, original down to the owners manual and service booklet. I kept that car 6 volt with the non syncro transmission but lowered it and threw some alloys on it, much like I did with this model. The model donating it’s wheels was a 1:24 Welly 930 Turbo, which I felt bad for taking apart so it may see life again on some other rolling stock in the future. It took some extensive reworking of the chassis, steering linkage, and inner body to make this work as the Fuchs were much wider then the stock steelies. All in all I think I nailed it, maybe a bit lower in the rear then I’d like but I think the VW community would approve none the less. Only other exterior details added were black to the rear grills and chrome trim to the running boards.
Look for this car tomorrow for a fantastic one shot with a relative! Enjoy!
