I've been holding off on shooting this car until I felt like my photo skills and editing were at least decent. If you recall I teased with a post about a month back. This is my favorite diecast in my collection, not just because it's a Porsche race car, not because it's a nicely detailed Autoart, but because it means more to me then just a model.

Back in 2008 I was just getting interested in auto racing. I was at the time really into vintage cars but hadn't seen much racing beyond a handful of vintage roadcourse, drag and oval racing. TFritch and I were at the time just friends in a common VW club and he was working as a crew chief on a SCCA World Challenge team. He suggested that I come out to watch some modern sports car racing at Laguna Seca in the spring. I don't know if it was the team livery or that I had already started gravitating toward Porsche's as my favorite marque but I loved the Flying Lizard cars and immediately got attached. That year they were piloting three cars and I happened to get a chance to meet all the drivers at a meet and greet before the race, getting all of their autographs on a poster that you can see in the last frame. I've continued to follow them over the years through driver changes, their trips to the infamous 24 hours of Le Mans, and now in recent years with their change over to Audi R8's in that same great livery.

This Autoart is an example of the early 2007 Porsche RSR 911 GT3 before updates were made to the front hood and bumper for better cooling and aero in the post 2008 cars. It was given to me by a good friend who heard of my enthusiasm for the team, but it had spent many years on a shelf in smokers house so the surface has suffered. Thankfully photo editing has hidden most of the imperfections, but don't get me wrong this model is very well appointed. Enjoy!
