Big things with little cars

Corvette Quickie - Because Racecar

Thanks to TFritch’s recent post, I am now slightly poorer in dollars, but richer in Corvettes. The Greenwood ‘Vette arrived yesterday, so today I decided to take my 1:43 Corvettes outside for a photoshoot. My plan was to take them all off the bases, but I discovered the Greenwood has a triangle head screw which I do not have the bit for. I’ll have to slot it with the dremel or something, but don’t really have time for that as I need to leave the house shortly. So I decided it would have to be a quick shoot with the cars on the bases and I’ll try again another day when I have more time.

Representing the C1 era, we have the ‘57 Corvette SS from AutoArt. This is the nicest of the lot, with better build quality and detail than the others, but it’s not a night and day difference, so they all play nicely together. We’ve seen this a number of times on LaLD, in both 1:43 and 1:18 scales.

For the C2 era, I have a pair of Grand Sports. The C2 Grand Sport is possibly my favorite car ever. These are Universal Hobbies/Eagle Collectibles models. They have a number of different versions for both the Coupe and the Roadster. I could not decide between the body styles, so I bought my favorite deco of each.

When I bought these, there was an eBay seller with a number of different versions and I scored them for about $30 delivered for the pair. Now I’m looking on eBay and they’re more like $30 a piece, so I’m happy that I bought them when I did.

And the Greenwood from Altaya is holding things down for the C3 generation. This is such a ridiculously over-the-top car and I love it.

Now here’s where I need help. I would like to eventually “complete” this collection by having a race or prototype or otherwise unusual Corvette for each generation. C5R and C6R models are plentiful, so I’m not too worried on that front. At the moment, it appears the only C7R in 1:43 is a Spark model (or a slot car), but I’m sure more will appear over the next couple years and I’m patient. But I’m at a loss for the C4 (Bburago made a 1:43 C4 with 2 different racing decos, but it’s frankly nowhere near the detail of what I’ve already got). So, does anyone know of a 1:43 C4 race car/prototype/custom whatever (I’d love a Callaway Sledgehammer, but I’m flexible) with good detail that’s not too expensive (under $30 would be great, but I don’t know that I can be too picky)?
