So I found another 3 Musketeers '70 Chevelle Panel Delivery, and also picked up a DC Comics "8 Crate" (which is basically a custom mid engine '56 Ford Ranch Wagon) but which also happens to be a Panel Delivery version. Both were $2.50 at Walmart, and with metal bases and awesome real riders tires, they seemed like perfect candidates for custom work.
(NOTE: I'm not keeping an original copy of the Marvel 8 Crate Delivery, the stock design doesn't appeal to me. So I'm breaking my rule of having an original to go with, at least for now.)
Problem is, acetone didn't even touch the paint. In fact, even after 24 hours in a carb cleaner bath, the tampos barely came loose and the paint is only slightly coming off. These cars clearly had some sort of enamel or something stronger than the usual cars. I don't know much about paint, but is there a way I can strip the cars clear down to base metal?
Also, any reassembly tips would be very helpful. I ordered the tiny screws recommended in another post. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!
