Finally this custom is done. After about 20-25 hour of work put into this thing I finally have it done and I couldn't be more pleased with how this custom turned out. Let me start off by saying that I hope to have a pretty detailed post coming up real soon about I did this custom from start to finish and I have a ton of pics to go along with it, I think there are almost 30 pics. I know alot of people have asked about how I do certain things when I'm customizing so I planned on using this custom to detail alot of those process as I went along.
So here is the condensed version so I don't have to make the same post twice. This started out as a ERTL Trucks of the World Mack truck. This truck is a true 1/64th semi, its almost 11 inches long from front to back. It was the only company that I could find that made the right model of mack truck as seen in the movie and as an added bonus it already had the tanker trailer. Here is a list of alot of mods done to it. The front guard, truck wheel wells and mesh covering were made from plastic styrene sheets. For the truck I had to also make a 2nd air cleaner and exhaust stack for the left side of the truck. I also had to switch around the inside of the cab to make it a left hand drive truck and I found a set of good tire to use off of an M2 Semi.
Now to the hardest part of the custom, the trailer. The original tanker was completely round which isn't like the tanker in the movie. To get it to look right I had to cut almost 1/4 of inch out middle of tanker giving it a more oval appearance. Just like the movie version I had to cut the rear end off a Chevy Nomad and add metal plates to it using styrene. I also made mesh covers for the rear wheels and the top armor plated areas all with styrene. The metal I used to simulate the barbed wire is just a couple of piece of telephone line cut up and stripped and then painted. Finally we have the custom 7 Sisters Petroleum decals that I made from scratch using photoshop. If your curious about the 7 Sisters name I suggest you check here, it took quite a bit of research to figure out what company name was on the side of the tanker because its hard to see in the movie.
After everything was put together I finally got the entire thing pained as close as possible to the version in the movie. The truck is painted with the correct colors and even has the "earth" word on the right side door. Everything was weathered to give that post apocalyptic feel as seen in the movie. I hope everyone enjoys the pics, I know I had alot of fun as well as some frustration when as I made this and I hope everyone likes how it turned it out, I know I did.
