Once thought to be extinct. The endangered Datsub in its natural habitat.

Hahaha! This thing is ridiculous. Let me see how many build pics I have left of this silly thing.

JB weld didn’t work too well for filling the fenders so I ended up using pieces of the Mig Rig for the front fenders, and the base of a yellow Lotus Esprit for the rears. Then the wheel wells on base had to be filled too.

Yellow Lotus was helpful again

Then I overestimated my craftiness and tried to vacuum form a bubble. EPIC FAIL. I only managed to get the bubble to pull about 2 millimeters out.

Here’s the only image of the failed bubble before I threw it away in disgust.

Then I tried to get the Jetsons mobiles dome to fit. Too wide.

And finally my prayers were answered when the Homer arrived at my door.

I was determined to make one of those domes fit. The front one was again too wide, but that rear dome was perfect.

And so, the Datsub was finally becoming an actual custom, rather than a failed attempt staring me down every time I sat at my work space.

I really wanted to do a fancy Datsun racing livery, but if I had to strip this thing with all its plastic pieces, I knew it would all fall apart. And I would probably cry. lol

Now it’s attached to an axle. which is in turn attached to a rock. Haha, that really sounds stupid now that I type it.

I could have smoothed the top out a bit more.

After 2 months of fighting with this thing I finally finished it, glued it to a rock and threw it in a kiddy pool.

Priceless!

Thanks for checking out my stuff. Enjoy what’s left of your weekend.
