Dune Deserter.

I was lucky enough to find a Hot Wheels Manx at a flea market just a few days ago. I really wanted to customize one after seeing TinfoilHat’s custom lifted one. I Just wasn’t sure if I could do anything near as cool. After rolling it around for a few hours I decided I’d stick with the hot rod addiction I’ve had lately and see where it took a little dune buggy.

Started life pretty unassuming. It really is a cool cast that I have passed a million times. Guess it takes another persons eye to get me to see what I’ve been missing.

When I started the build all I knew for sure was that I really wanted to keep the hoop bumper up front. I just felt like it and the headlights gave the cast a goofy non serious look. I didn’t want to ruin the cars personality. As much as I wanted to keep the fenders they had to go to fit the lowered stance I was after. she wound up even lower than the above photo.

She still rolls just fine. I had a hell of a time keeping her from rolling off of the hood of the cars and on to the ground. You can see how I lowered the car. in this photo. The body now sits inside. I’ll do this cleaner next time.., now that I know it works.
