Every Time I Think I'm Out, They Pull Me Back In

The Obscure Ones...they just get a hold of me and don’t give up! I’ve had a great time finding out about the obscure brand diecast over the last couple years, mostly from the folks here at LaLD. I thought I’d got a handle on it and didn’t feel the need to rescue them all, blah, blah, blah.
I thought I did it. I’ve passed up on so many “savable” examples and just walked away...until today.

What the heck is this??? A Karmann Ghia with teeth! Why have I never seen this before!? Based on what I’ve learned about this “class” of diecast, the base starts creeping up the sides as they try to lower the costs...

which makes me wonder if these were ever produced with a full metal or plastic body. Can anyone shed more light on this? The wheel/rims are smooth and don’t look like they ever had “chrome” highlights, but that can be fixed easily enough.

Made in China (d’uh) and 9614 are the only clues. If these were produced without the base being so much a part of the body, I have a new grail.

Cousins. The overbite grill cracks me up.
