It’s black. It’s French. Today’s Friday. Perfect! Or should I say... c’est parfait! (Jobjoris would be proud, yeah I looked it up on Google. whatevs).
I seriously loved these cars back in the 80's. The Renault Alliance/Encore was not an uncommon sight through the late 80's early 90's here in ‘murica. But, sadly, these were not built to survive and most went to Renault heaven/hell by the turn of the century. One of my high-school friends had one of these around ‘94 and he hated it. I didn’t care, I was super jelly. Something about the simple design and sharp edges just made my heart flutter. <3 If I found a nice one today (haha yeah right) I would get on my knees and beg my wife to let me buy it.
This lovely Matchbox version is perfectly imperfect to represent the original 11. A lovely bag of mehs to compliment an unremarkable design. Underneath... plastic with the most uninspired undercarriage design in the diecast realm. Seriously why bother. Since the exhaust isn’t hooked up to anything, clearly it just takes in fresh air, filters it just before the rear suspension and then farts it back out. No engine involved whatsoever. I had no idea these cars ran on such space-age wizardry... no wonder they were unreliable.
Happy Black Friday LaLD :)
And now... the Renault Encore in it’s natural habitat, getting a ride to the mechanic.
