Merveilleux! As a youngster I only had one goal in life and that was owning a pristine Peugeot 205 GTI. And then preferably a 'Vert Fluorite' 1.9 Griffe. But it all started with the 1.6.
The 1.6 GTI was launched in 1984 with a 104 hp engine. It had 14" alloys mounted which distinguishes it from the later introduced 1.9 (130 hp) with it's 15" (both speedline) rims.
At that time it was it's class' benchmark. And Peugeot never built anything with such a (Euro) following and reputation again. If you want one I's suggest you get one quick as these are increasing in value and are getting harder to get every day.
This model is a Solido and it's quite terrible. It's got that same 'thick' pain and weird spots like Solido's A310 I wrote about a while back.
It even made Hollywood production Target in 1985 starring Matt Dillon and Gene Hackman.
No mirrors, no speedlines, no black/grey plastic wheel-arches, no black/grey side marks on it's c-pillar stating it's a GTI. Just one thing they couldn't have done better is it's...
YELLOW LENSES! And opening doors but when you open the driver's door it hardly closes.
I really need to get a better example of the breed for my collection. Way better. Le lionet deserves it.
Next week an even more infamous 205 will come along. Yes, it's that 'Group B' 205... Bon vendredi!
