I don’t really hunt much anymore (you’ll see why in a second) but stumbled across some interesting finds yesterday across a few stores.
Walmart. I hit the jackpot. The pegs were full, very full. Anyone looking for some Turbots or Hover & Outs? I’ve never heard of them so I think they might be rare. I haven’t bought them yet but don’t worry, I’m pretty sure they’ll still be there next time I’m back.
Other than that, I only came across one licensed casting… and more Hover & Outs and Turbots hidden in the back. This is my local Walmart. This is basically why I no longer hunt at Walmart. I only walked in there because it’s close to the office supply store I was checking out. And Walmart sells cookies. I was actually there for cookies.
Target. Within walking distance. Not much better. At last there were more licensed models here. By that I mean the Fiat 500. Then I looked down — wait, what’s this?!?!
I don’t know how these JH2s managed to sit there. I’m still missing the RX-3 from the set but I left without them since a fellow LaLDer has me covered and I don’t need another Z. I didn’t leave them in plain sight for the scalpers though. I wonder how long they’ll last hidden behind a sea of pegwarmer mainlines at eye-level?
My next stop was actually the hardware supply store but there was a 99c store nearby. I’ve had some luck at that chain lately so I decided to stop by. It turns out this is where Walgreens cases eventually go since we all know how often they restock.
There were also some old Halloween cars with interesting wheels. Vdubyajohn’s been asking about truck wheels for his custom Ram 1500 and I think these would be perfect for him!
Picked up two Forza chase cars plus two Walgreens exclusives. Left a lot on the pegs. Not really my thing so I’ll set them aside if anyone needs them. There were a few regular T-hunts but just hung them up front as usual since I couldn’t care less. Also picked up a grey facelifted R35 (not pictured) for myself because I finally found one.
Last stop was an actual Walgreens since I was feeling lucky and it was right next to the hardware supply store. I forgot why their cases ended up at the 99c store until I walked in.
Bonus: I was actually shopping for some solutions to really cheap disc brakes for customs. I’ve been looking for a solution to easily punch holes 2-3mm in sequins to get them for a fraction of a penny apiece.
Philip gave me two great suggestions yesterday. He suggested an adjustable hole puncher, which I tried looking for but couldn’t find in stores. Turns it it’s something more specialized not found in office supply stores. He also suggested metal washers. I found these and they might actually work at just over $1 for 30pc.
I also stopped by the Hobby Lobby in between the Walmart & Target to look at sequins and went home to do some test runs by cutting some up with a hobby knife.
It looks alright.
Also tried cutting it to fit on axles where the wheels don’t come off. Still needs some work. Or an actual hole punch that’s really precise.
