This is the Hot Wheels Cadillac Cien concept car. It’s basically the mid-engined Corvette we always wanted, except for the this Caddy had big ol’ V12 behind the seats.
I remember first seeing pictures of the concept car like it was yesterday. Motor Trend featured the Cien along side a Chevy SSR on a cover with the headline “American Revolution”. It was 2003, and GM was celebrating Cadillac’s 100th anniversary. Hence the name “Cien”, one-hundred en Español.
I bet GM wishes it could go back and greenlight this big bad Cadillac instead of the SSR. I know 2003 was the height of the retro-styling craze, but really? A hot-rod convertible pickup truck? They cancelled the Camaro for that!
Anyway, the Cadillac Cien was one of a handful of concept cars Cadillac was rolling out to emphasize their Arts and Science design language.
I also wonder if the V series cars had debuted prior to this concept, would it have changed GM’s mind about production? There’s no doubt that the V cars have been incredibly successful in making Cadillac a world leader in the automotive world once again. They’ve taken in the Germans, how cool would it have been to take on the Italians too!
Anyway, this Hot Wheels car came into my possession through a trade back at the beginings of the HWEP. Normally, the roof is black, but I took it off with some acetone. It was all scratched up and the original concept was completely silver anyway. It’s not as cool as the Cien Philipilihp did for Enginerrrrrr, but it’s a little better than what I started with!
Taillight tampos are really cool, and the double-5 spoke wheels work well with the car too.
My only complaint is the red glass; it just doesn’t do anything for me.
