Big things with little cars

Hot Wheels ID Cars - What’s Your Thoughts?

The Facebook groups and Instagram posts have been buzzing for months about the mysterious Hot Wheels ID cars...and we didn’t really know a lot until they dropped last weekend. I was on vacation in sunny Florida when they were released, and I was super nervous they’d be sold out before I would be able to get some. So we rushed over to Apple Millenia in Orlando and made our way through the crowds to snag the newest ID cars and tracks.

I was lucky enough to be able to snag all the cars, the portal and the track set. Our Apple genius, Renee, was AWESOME. We were talking about the cars, playing with the in store display track, and she brought five other Apple-ites over so they could hear about my large diecast car collection and share in on our joint excitement. We even took several selfies and made my wife join in for one LOL. It was one of the best buying experiences I’ve ever had.

All buying excitement aside, I’ll cut to the chase — what do you as LaLD-ers think about this new wave of future cars? Did you buy them? Do you plan to buy them? Do you think it’s truly a viable way to get the younger kids to get involved with the Hot Wheels brand? Priced high or just right?

I’ve read that by the end of 2020 there will be around 100 new ID cars (many are already leaked online and eBay), and that could spawn a whole new genre of collecting AND playing.

As a collector, I’m excited. I think it’s a cool new way to enjoy the classic HW cars, and a way to enjoy them with more people via online play.

If you’re interested, I’ll do an unboxing, setup, and how to video/post on the new system as I have yet to open my up.
