For this very British overcast day here in California, I thought I’d bring this cool Bentley 4 1/2 Litre by Lesney, resplendent in chrome, from the Models Of Yesteryear series (thanks to Spridget for that piece of info). I was lucky to find it in a retirement community rummage sale. It’s usually mounted on a wooden penholder base but I thought I should liberate it for this for a 1:64 entry today.
These things are absolutely huge in 1:1 form, among the most imposing cars ever made, but they are glorious. Ettore Bugatti called them “the fastest lorries in the world,” and they were fast for their day, winning Le Mans no less than 5 times by 1930, the last four in a row from 1927.
The chrome finish here is a bit much, I’d much rather it were dark green, but for such a neat little piece I’m happy. It’s a bit tarnished from age, but has cleaned up pretty well. Not bad for $1.00, in any case!
