The best way for me to kick off BMW week is to show off my E30 M3 from Otto. This very car, a red M3 with style 5 wheels, is a very important car to me. This is the car that started my fascination with the brand.

While at a rest stop just over the NY boarder on a road trip, I spotted one of these in the parking lot. I remember how striking it was; angry red, box flares, a not-so-subtle wing on an otherwise subtle car. I just stood there and stared at the car for a long time, taking it all in. It passed us on the highway a few minutes later when we were back on the road.

From then on I was obsessed with the brand, learning all I could about the 850ci, 2002tii, e36 M3 LTW, the sharknosed 635ci, the e28 and e39 M5, and figuring out if I should buy a 135i or used e60 M5 once I got a job out of college.

Needless to say, an e30 M3 was always a must have for my collection. I was never lucky enough to find a good deal on the AutoArt that we’ve seen several times here on LaLD. There’s about a million different race prepped Minichamps M3's, but their street cars were hard to come by as well.

As soon as I saw that this e30 was available for pre-order from Otto, I jumped on it. I placed my order with a Chinese diecast site, and waited patiently. 3 months passed before I got the email saying my order had shipped. It was well worth the wait...

As with my other Otto’s, this ones gorgeous. I have absolutely nothing left to say about these resin puppies that I haven’t already. The debate about the value of these models and the sealed bodies will continue on forever; I’m not going to convince you either way with this post. This is the one I wanted; this is the one I had the opportunity to get.

There were two minor flaws with this one, which is one of 3000 made. The front plate was crooked, which I didn’t notice until I took a ton of pics (of course). I fixed it though, so that’s why it looks fine in about 1/4 of these. The other flaw I really don’t have a problem with at all. It seems to have a very dramatic rake, which it shouldn’t, but I kinda like it!
