A sentimental Sunday with this one as well, it was among my very favorite toys as a kid. I thought I’d lost it to the sandboxes of time, but unearthed it in a box of random crap when looking for some Radwood backdrop material. I took this truck everywhere, I remember playing with it not only around my hometown in California, but on family trips to Arizona and Oregon and everywhere in between. I probably played with it on this very beach over 30 years ago. Very, very happy to have found it.
This is Corgi #495, the 1972-74 Mazda B1600 4x4 pickup in 1:36 scale. There were several versions of this casting, some 2wd, some with camper, some with trailer, and this version was apparently released in 1983-84. It’s metal with a plastic base, made in Great Britain, and the tailgate opens, as it so proudly states on the bedsides. Good for all the hauling a young boy had to do. It doesn’t roll so well anymore, and the wheels have faded to yellow, but it’s a tough old thing. Looking properly trucky now. Enjoy!
