What a great little car, this one. I became enamored with the RX-3 after seeing a really nice one on Jay Leno’s show, and after the Japan Historics series came out I knew I wanted to make one like it.

The main issue, though: those HUGE ridiculous fenders had to go.

Back in May when I got the car after splitting a pre-ordered case with Sn210 I promptly disassembled the little bumblebee and threw her in the stripper. And then she said in her Zamac glory until January.

I always knew it would be a long-term project since it requires some body shaping, but I’m glad I finally have a little bit of time to devote to it again, so off came the fenders!

The fronts are no problem, as sanding them off leaves a good wheel arch behind. But because the rear fenders are so angled, cutting them off and sanding it all down made for a much bigger arch than the wheel needed, so more drastic repairs were in order.

I cut out the old fenders leaving a nice rectangular space, cut pieces from a 1mm aluminium sheet, and cut arches out. Then I glued them into the space, and now I have a lot of cleaning, smoothing, and final shaping to do, but we’re well on our way!
