Big things with little cars

Lost and Found: Ferrari Maranello 550

This whole Live and Let Diecast Podcast thing has found me searching the boxes from our move, I was going to say recent, but that’s a lie, from Colorado to Maryland. Today I found this gem.

It’s another Maisto. I bought all of these back in the mid-90s for my son when he was little. Apparently Maisto is all I could find! Get off my lawn, Ryan! The car is a 1996 Ferrari 550 Maranello in yellow. You can find these for not much money all day long on eBay. I do like the details on this one though. You can tell it has Daytona seats, the engine detail is better than the BMW from my earlier post. It’s a Ferrari: you really can’t go wrong. You can buy a real Maranello for under $150k these days. I saw one on Bring-a-Trailer that garnered a top bid of $99k, but it didn’t meet the reserve. However, it’s only worth what the market is willing to pay.

Everyone should get to drive a Ferrari 12 cylinder car in their lifetime. I’ve driven a 512 Berlinetta Boxer and it was thrilling. I was only 19 years old at the time. I’m not sure what the owner was thinking! I had it past 130 mph on twisty country roads. I highly recommend driving a Ferrari.
