After a pretty long dry spell without any HWEPs, I pulled the trigger on three last week alone. The third arrived yesterday, from Alienprobe.

What initially got the ball rolling on this trade, was the open wheel Darda racer he found. I’m betting most of you probably have never heard of Darda, and I only have because my Grandmother found one in a small high end toy shop when I was about 8 years old and bought it for me on a whim (thanks Grandma!). I’m planning to do a much longer post on this when I bust out the old track for my kids one of these days, but I’ll give you the short version here. Dardas were (are???) West German made tracks like a Hot Wheels track, only instead of launching cars by gravity, they used special cars with really powerful pullback motors.

The pullback motor on this one doesn’t work, but I found a bunch of Darda Racers on clearance about 10 years ago, so hopefully I can use the mechanism out of one of those, to re-power this beauty.

Ah, the good old days, when a tobacco sponsorship could be on a kids toy.

Mr. Alienprobe also tossed in this similar style, very cool but not as high quality pull back third gen Firebird.
