I didn’t have enough Porsche posts for Rennsport Reunion so here’s one last post for now. After a teaser in my standard photo setup that looks like any other car in my collection, I am now fully unveiling Orange Peel (with the MBX Flatbed because it’s Monday).

Did I do it right this time?

Orange Peel is (as you probably guessed) a 1:18 warehouse club special. I caught a glimpse of the rear spoiler which screamed “BUY ME!” and after digging it out, I finally found a model that I liked the look of the brakes and rims. The box says Maisto but I’m more than happy that it actually isn’t.

How did it get the name Orange Peel?

Now here are some more shots of Orange Peel, starting with photos of Orange Peel disassembled. The steering wheel and pedals aren’t great but the rest of the interior is very nice. Love the red trim and seatbelt buckle plus silver accents.

Unhinged a tail light. Turns out they did paint it silver under the plastic.

And a trial run of a new set-up for 1:18s. Picked up some white poster boards for $0.33 at that place I’ve been buying cookies lately and opened the blinds for full daylight, plus a daylight bulb to hit the other side with lighting.

A few photos that might look oddly familiar. Hoping to see the day when I can call my own photos hot pieces of garbage.

I think the muffler system is a little too chromed and sticks out like a sore thumb from the rear. I’ll keep the exhaust pipes chromed but might respray the rest in silver. And maybe the pedals too. I’m considering repainting the roll cage as well to make it stand out.

I still need to follow up on some cheap copycat photos using my small scale Maisto 996. Will get to that when I have the time.
