I was gonna do Mustangs today, but I thought this might be a little more off the beaten path. I’ve always loved the shape of this car, even though Aurora distorted it somewhat to make it fit the Thunderjet chassis better.
These three have all seen many miles on the slotted highway.
I swapped the rear bumpers between the blue and white cars, since the white car has cut wheelwells and the blue one was in nicer shape but with a damaged bumper.
Not sure what the schmutz is on the rear quarter panels of the yellow car. I think the previous owner got a little out of control with the glue trying to reattach the rear bumper. I got it that way, and I’ve been afraid to do more damage trying to get it off.
I have mixed feelings about finding cars like this white one. It makes me cringe that some kid hacked the wheelwells up to put ridiculous hot rod wheels and tires on it. On the other hand, though, it’s awesome to imagine a 10-year-old kid in 1963 getting this car in an Aurora road racing set for Christmas, spending his paper route money on the hop-up parts and decals at the local hobby store, and building this little hot rod to go whip up on his buddies in the neighborhood on the tracks THEY got for Christmas.
Time to go run a few laps.
