The Sauber C9 was a Group C prototype racer introduced in 1987. Although it didn't perform well in it's inaugural season, things got better in 1988 with 5 wins and a 2nd place in the overall championship. But in 1989, after changing from the Mercedes M117 powerplant to the M119 they won all but one race and finished 1st, 2nd, and 5th at LeMans.
