Minichamps 1/43 Porsche 911 Targa 4 (991.1)

As somber as today might be, I just received a new car in the mail today. By pure coincidence, it happens to be a Minichamps 1/43 2014 Porsche 911 Targa 4 in Racing Yellow.

I also received a Minichamps 1/43 1997 Chevrolet Corvette (C5) in Torch Red, but that’s a post for another day.

It seems I can’t help but want to keep buying these damn things. I’d been looking for a 991.1 Targa, but I hadn’t found one at a price I liked. I happened to stumble upon this one when it came up in my recommended feed. $50 later, I owned a 991.1 Targa just like I wanted.

As for the car, it’s a 2014 Targa 4 in Racing Yellow over Agate Gray with the PDK and the 10-spoke Carrera Classic II wheels. It looks gorgeous, despite the fact it’s already 5 years old.

For the 991 generation, the Targa made a return to form by adding back the silver roof bar that harkens back to the Targas of the 80s in lieu of the glorified panoramic sunroof of the 996 and 997.

The 10-spoke Carrera Classic II wheels add a very nice look to the car that reminds you of its sporting pretensions.

Have you already forgotten what this is? If so, Minichamps and Porsche would like to remind you with the “targa” on the base of the targa bar.

Dual trapezoid exhausts give away that this is a Targa 4. The 4S has four exhaust pipes. The red light bar that stretches across the back reminds you that it’s a Targa 4.

The color is certainly vibrant in person for such a small model.

When we look inside, we find the Porsche Command Module and the optional 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox with the optional full paddle shifters.

I’m infinitely grateful to have found such a nice little Targa to add to the ever-growing 911 fleet.

I’ve yet to find a bad angle of this car. I should also note that it’s remarkably light. It almost feels like it’s resin, but it’s not. The box says metal, so I’d assume they’re telling the truth there.

One final detail my father pointed out was that the rear seatbelt latches are painted red like on the real one.

Overall, I absolutely love this model. I own a Minichamps 1/43 991.1 Carrera 4S and would take this over it in a heartbeat all day every day. It’s also 1/252 of these, so I’d assume that also counts for something. There are a few other versions available if Racing Yellow is a little too bright for your taste.

As an aside, I would like to take a moment to say a few words. On this day 18 years ago, I was sitting in my parents bedroom while they finished getting ready so we could go out to Kmart. We immigrated to this country from Colombia in January of that year, so we’d only been here for less than 8 months. I was about 3 years old, but I vividly remember knowing what happened live on Univision news. I might not have understood the full importance of it, but I knew that if something left my parents crying the way they did, it was serious. After 18 years, I fully understand what the September 11th attacks meant to this country and to the people living within it. I would like each and every person who reads this post to do me a huge favor. Go home tonight and tell your family, friends, and loved ones that you love them. Give them a hug if you can. You never know when something like this can happen. 18 years ago last night, thousands upon thousands of people went to sleep not knowing what the next day could bring them. Many of those wouldn’t live to say good night or an “I love you” ever again as they did before going to sleep. Take that time to be grateful for who you have around you. It’s the very least we can do to honor those we lost on that fateful morning.

We will never forget.
