This has been sitting on my desk for years and I’ve only now come to appreciate it.

I’ve had this 1/43 Hot Wheels Elite 1967 Ferrari 300 P3/4 since middle school. I bought it while visiting family in Japan at a flea market for 800 yen (the price tag is still on the box). At the time I was just a car nut with no knowledge of or interest in diecasts. Only now do I have appreciation for what a great model this is.

The model depicts the car Lorenzo Bandini and Chris Amon drove to win the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours. Racing fans will know this as the race with the wonderful photo of the three Ferraris crossing the line in formation. The paintwork is excellent with an even gloss throughout. The interior is nice, with photoetched belts and a dashboard with all the switches and gauges painted. The wheels are my favorite part of the model. In my opinion, the classic Ferrari 5-spoke in gold with a knockoff nut is the coolest wheel design out there. Hot Wheels did a great job replicating it and Firestone tire markings.

The only real issue I have with this model is that the headlight covers don’t fit particularly well. But it wouldn’t be a diecast if there wasn’t something more we wanted.
