There’s nothing I really hate more than indoor flea market vendors that abuse their wares. I’ve been eyeballing this Robby Gordon Action car for well... forever it seems. But the $20 price point just didn’t do it for me. Last weekend I visited the shop and the vendor was having a sale. Cool. But they stacked a bunch of crap on top of this car on one of the shelves. Soooooo not cool.

Despite the new dings and scratches, I was compelled to rescue the car. I just couldn’t take it anymore. STOP THE ABUSE!

I’ve always had a great admiration for Robby Gordon. He was a fun driver to watch in NASCAR and a great interview personality. He’s also a spectacular racer in anything he wheels. Versatile and talented, I like that.

The Cingular 31 of team Richard Childress Racing represents a sad time of NASCAR history. This was around the same time when Winston exited the sport and NEXTEL became title sponsor. With that change, they also declared exclusive rights to the sport and all existing wireless sponsors were “Grandfathered” for a couple more years before they were no longer allowed to sponsor cars. Cingular? out. Alltel? out. USCellular? out. NASCAR also put a ban on Spirits Sponsors which drove out Jack Daniels, Crown Royal, among others. I hated this transition because the sponsors fueled the sport and exclusive agreements hurt the teams in my opinion. The sport has not recovered since with most companies leery of signing on if NASCAR is going to force them out. Bad business if you ask me. The sport is about competition... so if you are a sponsor and you are offended that a competing company won a race, go dump some money into a team and win some races as well. Simple.

I always really liked the livery on the Cingular car. It’s really fun and memorable. Glad to have this in my collection even though it wasn’t really high on my list :) I couldn’t stand watching it get abused any more.
