This is a 1955 Buick Century. This particular model is the California Highway Patrol model which features an iconic CHP livery and some police lights.
The hood ornament and the font used for the car make are very nice touches. I found this car at a local pharmacy which usually sells 1/32 scale pull back - n - go toys but had 8 different Maisto models on display. There was also a Camaro police car which was toooo overdone livery-wise. This Buick looked classic and for 9.99, it's a pretty good looking model.
This model is actually nicely detailed all around for a 10 dollar Maisto. I don't usually go for scales bigger than 1/64 but I had to have this when I saw it.
Some really nice interior detailing. You can't see it in this pic but the gauges are all painted and you can even see what looks like a Ham radio under the dash. And look at that bench seat! You just don't get that in modern cars.
Hood opens to reveal some carburetor power. Sadly it's all black so seeing details isn't really easy.
Red and white flashes along the fenders instead of the single rotating roof light like the MBX 1956 Buick Century features. I'm not sure which police light style I like more!
One weird thing though is that there does appear to be cutouts for the trunk to open. But it just won't open. I thought maybe it was broken but after talking to one of our resident 1/18 scale experts, apparently some companies use the same casting but don't feature opening hoods/doors/trunks on cheaper versions. I assume that there's a more expensive CHP Buick out there but I'm pretty happy with this one.
I'm very happy with this model. It's different from my normal collection but it's detailed enough that I'm not regretting straying to my typical scale. It was also a spur of the moment buy. Walked in, took one look at the diecast rack, saw this and bought it without hesitation. $9.99 is not a lot of money and I feel like I got a lot of car for it.
