The last Ferrari road car that founder Enzo Ferrari last oversaw before his death, the F40.
This Hot Wheels toy is probably the closest I can get to owning one, though. Anyhow... This Fezza is from a 5-pack from 2014 I think. It was the first release, which is easy to differentiate because the early releases had the 1988 casting of the F40 with the opening engine cover, and the later releases which HW redid the entire casting and did away with the opening part (presumably this was the time when they decided to cut costs). Good thing I snapped up this pack, for this classic!
As the pictures attest, the fit is very poor. I don’t know about the 1988 toy if it has the same loose fit of the engine cover, but I assume the tooling was old and therefore contributed to this odd rear end treatment of the Fezza. It can’t stay open on its own, so I had to fabricate an engine cover stand to prop it open. The engine block is moulded together with the heavy metal chassis. Nothing much to see inside... The chassis, curiously, also moulds the headlights! So this means the headlights are metal. Very odd...
I’ll share the other Ferraris from the pack another time. Enjoy the pics, and have a nice Sunday!
