A recent acquisition as of yesterday, I would like to quickly share this with you!
The ARO 24 Series was a Romanian off-road and military 4x4 made from 1972 to 2006. About ten years ago, there were plans to sell the quad-headlight version in the US as the CrossLander 244X, but the project never got off the ground.
I find the stark styling very appealing, with its raw shark nose, wide headlights and classic proportions. Of course, it is from the former Soviet Bloc, so it’s not exactly refined. But the clumsy treatment of the rear bed-side corners and the clunky leading edge of the hood are just quirky perks to me.
A special bonus to this 1/43 DeAgostini model (aside from the magazine that came with it) was that the top comes off, revealing two troop carrying bench seats. This is a cool model, but it does look a bit odd compared to the rest of my collection. I’ll have to do something about that in the future...
Stay tuned for another Soviet Saturday from me, once my Moskvitch arrives.
