Number 996. Not to be mistaken for 666 but still: to many a number not to be adored. Same here actually. At first I was like: What the Fuchs is happening here? Where do the eggs come from????

And then, in 1999, Porsche came with the GT3 iteration of the 996. That was a huge image builder. Track oriented. Racing in Porsche’s own Porsche Carrera Cup series but also in the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Group GT3 class.

But still I wasn’t aware of it’s awesomeness. That took a while. When I went checking out a used Z4 with/for a friend the seller didn’t just have the Z4 at home: he had a low mileage GT3 as well.

Not a black one like this. White. With blue screaming GT3 decals. And blue wheels. After he fired it up I was cured from my 996-dislike. Instantly. What an amazing car. Taking that one on the roads proves one’s balls are made of what, titanium?

The model is a 1/43 Minichamps. It made a cameo appearance before, can’t remember in what post though. Maybe that’s a signal I do too many Porsches.

I’ve driven my neighbor’s 996 Turbo (X50 chip so that’ Turbo S power!) two weeks ago, that really was an eyeopener for me when it comes to 996s. I could use one for DD purposes. I’m ready for one now.
