I don’t think I will bother talking about the history of this car - we all know it. For years, a somewhat unloved car. And yet - to me - few, if any, car shapes have held up so well over the years. Actually, I think it looks better now than when it first came out - if that makes sense.
When the car was new, Porsche fans everywhere went “Whaaaaaat???” This car looked like nothing else on the road then, and it was a lot bigger and heavier than any other Porsche then. Plus it had, water cooled engine - at the front! Sacrilege!
Today, well, I think the original versions look great. Later ones, with the add ons, still look good, but not as clean. Of course, in the 80s and 90s, customizers did horrible things to these cars...
Although, maybe that thing is awesome in its own right, I’m not sure. Either way, this model is a 1/43 by Solido that I had since my teenage years. And seeing that I’m now
52 over 40, that’s quite a few years. It has a few battle scars - but it still looks good to me.
Today - second hand 928s are tantalizingly cheap - especially in the US. But - if something goes “bang”, the repair bills are astronomical. A shame really, I could really see myself in one of these.
So - what are your thoughts on the 928? Misunderstood - or an automotive dead end?
