I’m guessing that most of you will be aware that the Audi A1 is based on the Polo platform. But how many people here remember that the VW Polo started life as the el-cheapo version of an Audi - the almost forgotten Audi 50? The Audi was killed off in 1978, while the Polo lives on to this day.

In 2010, the A1 reversed the original story and became an upscale model based on the Polo. And for some reason, Tomica decided to make both cars, in the same colour - but in slightly different scale. The Polo is in 1/62 scale and the Audi in 1/60. Tomica could have repeated the trick and produce both models on the same platform, but no.

And just as in real life, the Audi has a couple of extra features - two tone paint and an opening hatch. The Polo model is more basic - nothing opens.

At least Tomica is a bit nicer than the Volkswagen Group - they don’t charge extra for the Audi, and don’t cheat with their emissions tests either! ;-)
