Here for Teutonic Tuesday are three releases of Matchbox’s Volkswagen Golf GTI MkV.

The orange one is a 2008 mainline release depicting the Fahrenheit edition. The purple one is a 2009 mainline release, and the blue one is a 2008 10-pack exclusive.

The 5th generation of Volkswagen’s Golf and GTI was sold in Europe beginning in 2004 in Europe and 2006 in North America. In all markets, the GTI is powered by a 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder engine with about 200 hp, paired with a 6 speed manual or 6 speed dual-clutch semiautomatic (VW’s DSG transmission).

The Fahrenheit edition was a limited edition model offered in early 2007 with special orange paint and trimming, new wheels, modified suspension, and with a standard DSG.

Oddly enough, I don’t think Matchbox’s GTI MkV has really been shown on LaLD. However, every generation of Volkswagen’s Golf and GTI has been made in 3-inch/1:64 scale at some point by Majorette, Matchbox, Tomica, Siku, Hot Wheels, Schuco, Norev, and others.

All three of these releases are wonderfully detailed with sharp front and rear light tampos, front and rear badging, grille texturing, and the GTI’s signature red stripe around the grille area.

The interior is fairly nice with some dashboard details, an impression of a spoked steering wheel, and detailed seats.

The underbody is nicely detailed with front and rear suspension, as well as a full exhaust. Scale is listed as 1:59.

I purchased the orange and purple releases new years ago, before I started serious collecting. I found the blue one earlier this year at a flea market. All of them have slightly faded wheels, but not too bad.
