The Holiest of Grails

This is the Ottomobile Volkswagen Golf W12 concept car. Otto produced this a few years ago and it sold out fast; it seldom pops up for sale and when it does, it’s big money. 3-400 dollars usually, for a sealed resin from Otto. I have a hard time paying over 120 for a resin car from GT Spirit, Otto is a little bit more budget-y so the ebay asking prices were a no go. But after 2 years of waiting and looking and searching, one finally popped up for 250. Still big money but as cheap as I’ll probably ever find.

The Golf W12 is exactly what it sounds like, a VW Golf with a W12 motor stuffed behind the front seats. More specifically, it’s a MK5 GTI with the 6.0 W12 from a Bentley but with two turbochargers bolted on, giving the car 641 horsepower that was sent to the rear wheels. The car also received a wild looking widebody kit so no one would mistake this for just an average Golf.

As for the model itself, typical Otto complaints, the plast windows are too thin although they seem to be cut better. Normally the windows on an Otto are just flat rectangles but this car seems to have the proper curvature. Paint is nothing to write home about, it’s fine but it’s a plain gloss white. The carbon fiber roof is replicated pretty nicely though.

Overall I’m very happy to finally have this model in hand, now if only someone would make the MK7 R400 concept...
