Well, it’s Friday afternoon, Beer O’Clock and we’re off with a few work mates to a couple of well earned drinks. Our destination was King Street Wharf at Darling Harbour.
This is a new-ish entertainment precinct that was built on the site of some old, derelict wharves. It is the usual mixture of eating, drinking and shopping venues.
It’s the sort of place where you find a few strange things, like a Roman soldier...
staring straight at a Mississippi Steam Boat?
It’s chintzy, it’s touristy and definitely overpriced. But it’ll do for a couple of cold ones.
And if you by now have the impression that Sydney is all about finding a nice spot with a waterview and having fun, you’d be definitely right. It has the reputation for being a bit narcissistic and superficial - and that is not entirely wrong.
And just to drive that point home, on the way back we pass this:
Barrangaroo - a brand new, huge Hotel and Casino complex - designed to lure in more of China’s High Rollers. As if we needed more gambling in this town...
And we also pass the old - the other side of “The Rocks” where we were a couple of days ago. And for whatever reason, our boat is getting buzzed by a black helicopter. MIBs over Sydney Harbour? Maybe that’s a UFO disguised as the moon? Or maybe I shouldn’t have had that last drink...
Anyhow, that’s all for today - tomorrow, we’ll find Nemo!
