So for my first model of the new year, I got me a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag and you should too, because it’s currently on sale for $65 at Diecast Models Wholesale!
It’s AUTOart’s 1/18
Aston Martin Jaguar XKR-S in French Racing Blue. I’ve been after this model for quite a while, but I always ended up prioritizing for cars that I liked more. I received an email the other night from DMW. You know, their typical weekly product updates and stuff like that. I usually don’t bother reading them, but good thing I did this time, because the very first item in the ad was this purrrrty cat, on clearance for about half-off. Done deal.
The XK is surely one of the most classically beautiful cars in production today. I think it looks better than any current Aston Martin. The XKR-S takes it up two notches with a boost in performance and looks. While it still doesn’t quite have the feline quickness of other sports cars in this price range, it beats the others in the eye test eleven times out of ten.
At full price, I would say this model is decent. You have to take into consideration how high AUTOart has set the bar for itself with their continued excellence. As seen below, this model strangely uses dogleg hinges for the hood, something I haven’t yet seen in a current release until now. Engine-bay-wise and interior-wise, there’s not much to see, but I’d fault the real car. The exterior receives no complaints from me. However, for $65, it’s a no-brainer if you collect 1/18's and you like modern sports cars.
To conclude, I just have one request for AUTOart. Please do the XFR-S. Please. I’d be all over that.
