I’ve been meaning to post these for a while as I got them weeks ago. After seeing Small Scale Sydney’s earlier Welly post I was reminded of them and took a few quick shots. The box states the scale as 1:32 but as you’ll see in some shots there are more likely 1:64 or close enough to it.
So these are made by Welly and like most of their stuff I’ve found so far it’s more than adequate, not top shelf but far from the bottom of the barrel. All opening parts and the body are diecast with the roof and windows made from plastic.
The opening entry door is good to see and shuts nicely. The tyres are rubber mounted on some pretty realistic looking heavy vehicle rims and the rear bogey drive is awesome!
Express bus is red for speed reasons.
The engine cover opens and holds itself in place exposing a fairly decent representation of the engine. A few strategic paint details and it’ll look even better.
And one luggage compartment door can open as well as seen on the red bus above.
Mind the step... Those fragile looking rear view mirrors are made from a very flexible rubber type material so should have no issues with breaking.
So one thing I’ve already done is pull the red bus apart and paint the interior in matte black. You can see the stock interior in the white bus is some strange translucent yellow plastic. I didn’t like that and have no idea why it was even chosen but then remembered it’s a $6 kids toy.
Anyway I like it better painted.
The head lights and tail lights are seperate plastic parts and are coloured correctly.
Size comparison with some known casts. I’m not a scale buff but to me these will work for my stop motion clips and that’s the main reason I got them, plus I didn’t have any bus casts.
Lastly it’s worth pointing out that it looks like this cast is also available with sound and probably lights, maybe why the interior was translucent now I think about it. I’ve not seen any of those versions though.
Thanks for looking.
