So here’s the first of the new Tomica Premium RS models. 1/43 scale Tomica models with lots of opening features, much like the old Tomica Dandy line.
I was really looking forward to this one, and it doesn’t disappoint. It is easy to see how far we have come in the last 4o years. For comparison, here’s a link to my review of the old Dandy Countach LP400:
The good thing is that all the opening features are still there today. But the details of the new casting are quite amazing - especially considering the price of JPY 3500.
The glazing, the wiper, the tampos all look like a contemporary casting should, The interior is much more detailed. As is the engine bay.
And then there’s the wheels - with brake discs and tread on the tires - nice.
All of that for less than half the price of the upcoming TLV F40. Please let that sink in for a minute.
Any dislikes? Well, the doors take a some jiggling to shut properly, otherwise they stand a bit proud of the body. And that heavy metal feeling of the Tomica Dandy models is gone. It feels like a modern Made in China diecast, because it is.
I hope we will see a lot more of these Premium RS models - and Japanese cars too. And I hope the price will remain low, so I can afford them.
